Elimination Communication

Published by runkin under Uncategorized Edit This

If you enjoy the hiking, once you have a baby you may think your days of backpacking are over until your little one can hike and carry a pack. You may think that there is no way to pack everything you need for you and your baby without hiring a Sherpa. Think again. You can minimize what you need to carry by teaching your baby elimination communication, which is simply helping your baby use the potty or, in this case, pee in the woods. If you practice elimination communication you won’t need to pack a case of diapers because your baby will fuss when she needs to pee or poop, and you can respond by removing her diaper and holding her with her back to your belly with your hands under her chubby thighs, and let her pee on the ground. That is one less diaper you need to pack! When our daughter was 7 months old we went on a 16 mile backpacking trip with just 6 cloth diapers, and it was so fun getting out. Our daughter enjoyed it too.
