Dip Into Hummus

Published by runkin under Uncategorized Edit This

Hummus is a healthy, nutritious and delicious snack. Hummus is made using garbanzo beans (also known as chick peas), which are a great source of protein, and very low in fat. You can easily make your own hummus or you can buy it premade at the grocery store. Pita chips, or fresh pitas warmed and sliced into wedges, are good for dipping into the hummus. You can also use hummus as dip for fresh vegetables. This is a snack that is easily prepared ahead of time, and keeps well in the refrigerator for quite a while, so you can pull it out as an after school snack or any time you need a quick and easy snack.

Drink Plenty of Water

Published by runkin under Uncategorized Edit This

Your body is made mostly of water, so you need to make sure that you drink enough water each day. Start with a tall glass of water first thing in the morning because your body will be dehydrated from going all night without any water. Each time you sit down to have a meal, have a glass of water with your food. Throughout the day, when you get hungry, have a glass of water. Sometimes your body is dehydrated, but you may initially interpret that thirst for hunger. So have a glass of water before you have a snack. If you have several glasses of water throughout the day, you will feel better and your body will be hydrated and healthy.

Healthy Dips for Veggies

Published by runkin under Uncategorized Edit This

Is it a constant battle to get your kids to eat their vegetables? You may try to encourage your kids to eat their vegetables by providing dips for their carrot sticks and broccoli crowns, but if you do, choose healthy dips. Don’t serve vegetables with fatty dips, such as ranch and blue cheese dressing. These dips contain high levels of saturated fat, and will counteract the healthiness of the vegetables your kids just ate. Choose healthy dips like hummus, yogurt, and almond butter. Sit down and eat the veggie snacks with your kids. If they see you are eating the vegetables and dip, then they are more likely to try it. Enjoy!

Soak Up the Winter Sun

Published by runkin under Uncategorized Edit This

When it is cold out and you have small children, you may not spend as much time outside as you used to. Take advantage of the warm winter days and go outside. Bundle up the kids, go out side and soak up the winter sun. Whether you are just playing in the yard, sledding, ice skating, or doing any other fun activity, it feels good to inhale some fresh air and feel the sun shining on you. So go outside the next day that it is relatively warm out. The temperature might drop again next week, and then you will be inside again, staying cozy next to the fire.
